A new era of Taylor Swift arrived on April 26th with the release of her latest single, “ME!” featuring Panic! At the Disco’s Brendon Urie.
Prior to the release, Swift piqued fan’s interest with a butterfly mural unveiling in Tennessee and a conversation with Good Morning America’s Robin Roberts during the NFL Draft in which she revealed that, ” ‘ME!’ is a song about embracing your individuality and really celebrating it and owning it.” “ME!” is quintessentially Swift with its catchy melody and relatable lyrics.
Dave Myers, known for his work on Ariana Grande’s “No Tears Left To Cry” video, co-directed an accompanying video for “ME!” with Swift. The new video visually evokes a departure from the “Reputation” Era with its distinctive light palette and sweetened tone.
The video opens as a pink and white snake threads across colored bricks and explodes into a kaleidoscope of butterflies, thrusting fans into a pastel bathed realm. Seamlessly, fans are led from one Swift era to another and become entranced in a new world of soft colors, clouds and whimsical backdrops.
In typical Swift fashion, she left easter eggs throughout the video of her album name and the name of her next single.
During the video, we see the skyline and get a clear view of a neon sign reading “Lover.” The twitter-verse has come to the consensus that this is the new single name. The album title is a little more hidden. As twitter user, @NOLASwifties pointed out, the new album could be called Kaleidoscope.
