REVIEW: Maisie Peters Releases Break-Up Anthem “Blonde”

On August 5, pop artist Maisie Peters released her eagerly anticipated single “Blonde.” Before its release, “Blonde” had already gained over one million TikTok views from Peters teasing the song on the platform. The single follows Peters’ 2021 album You Signed Up For This, as well as hit “Cate’s Brother,” which ushered in this new era of Peters’ music.

“Blonde” is utter pop heaven, with electric guitar and slow drums that build to an explosive bass drop in each chorus. The song features one of Peters’ signature crescendoing bridges and powerful synth sounds as she sings of reinvention and a bottle of hair bleach. The single is a quintessential revenge track with rebellious lyrics like, “Nothing more frightening than a woman scorned,” and “Is that an angel? No, it’s your ex.”

When asked about the track, Peters mentioned that, “‘Blonde’ is a song about confidence, self-worth, and standing behind yourself… it represents turning a new leaf in how you see yourself, for the better.” This confidence is further expressed in the official lyric video released in correspondence with the single. The video shows Peters ripping off a brunette wig and cutting it up with glee, flaunting her bleached locks as she shouts the song’s rally cry, “I’ll f*** your life up as a blonde.” If this single is any indication, it must be true- blondes really do have more fun.

Maisie Peters is currently supporting Ed Sheeran in Europe on his “+ – = ÷ x Tour” and will be embarking on a North American headline tour this fall. Her next single, “Good Enough” will be released on August 19.
