On October 14, “You could’ve been… in the middle of …Boston ” for Massachusetts native Lauren Weintraub’s first ever headlining show.
Performing since she was very young, Lauren is no stranger to the stage. However, that night was different, as her name appeared on the marquee.
Family and friends packed Berklee’s Cafe 939, as an anticipatory hum echoed within the venue’s Red Room walls.
The first to take the stage was Cape Cod native and country artist, Morgan Johnston. The crowd sang along to “Don’t Say I Didn’t Warn You” and “After Me,” as well as some unreleased material. Morgan’s commentary on love and break-ups set the stage for Lauren’s relatable performance.
Following a “Your brain on drugs” inspired EP teaser, the revved up crowd welcomed Lauren as she climbed the Boston stage with her glittering flame platform boots.
After taking a moment to soak it all in, Lauren began her 14 song set with “Makeup is Expensive,” a song like her viral hit, “She’s Mine, ” was first heard on Tik Tok. Last year, Lauren played the beginnings of “She’s Mine,” which flips the classic break-up anthem on its head and praises the new person in an ex’s life. The original video, which now sits at over 2 million views, eventually led to Lauren’s first official music release. “This song changed my life…but really it was you,” she gushed to the crowd.
Other notable songs on her set included “Like A Boy” and “Ex-Appeal.” When Lauren asked the crowd who had the worst ex, two women’s hands shot right up. Turns out their ex’s were hilariously both named “Justin” and hailed from the same town. “I’ll let you all sort this out after the show,” she joked.
Lauren then teased some new releases including her “ultimate fuck you anthem,” “Over Her Over Here” dropping November 4.
When it came time to wrap the show, Lauren opted to forgo the obligatory encore. “I’m not going to do that, that’s dumb. I’d rather have more time to meet you and hug you.”
Lauren then stayed to meet and hug everyone until the venue closed.
It was evident as the night wrapped that Lauren’s lyrics of heartache make her fans love her even more.
