Lauren Jauregui is telling her lover straight forward in her new seductive song. Jauregui dropped her new song “Expectations” on Wednesday, October 24th. In the Kid Harpoon-produced single, she wishes that she didn’t have any expectations about love. While she’s laying in bed, alone, at two in the morning, again, she wonders where love has been and well, she just can’t help herself.
“Wish I had no expectations/ I wish that I could get it through your head/ With no confrontation/ I really wish we could talk about it instead,” she sings her sultry, raspy voice over a slow-rolling R&B/soul shuffle and spare beat. In the chorus her vocals rise to an urgent moan. The song is about romantic frustration and a plea for some basic respect. The song also includes a killer blues guitar solo that gives it that late night mood.
In an interview with Billboard she explains what the song is about. “Expectations is an exploration of when you’re in a relationship with someone and you don’t want to have expectations,” she told Billboard on the American Music Awards Red Carpet earlier this month. “But they kind of get in the way, regardless, so it’s about that.”
The song is definitely different compared to her past music with Fifth Harmony. With her solo debut album, as she tells Billboard “hopefully… maybe” looking at an early 2019 release date, Jauregui made her solo debut strong with this sexy, seductive new song that will be in all of your heads for the rest of the year.
