“Sunroof” singer Nicky Youre is back with another track that is sure to be on your summer playlist. “Never Go Wrong,” a collaboration with fellow artist, David Hugo, combines the viral artists’ signature melodies and the concept of destined relationships to create an infectious indie pop track.
We chatted with Youre all about the single, the video, and more!
What inspired your new single “ Never Go Wrong”?
David and I were inspired by the idea of things that are meant to be. We wanted to write a song about feeling a sense of familiarity with someone after meeting them for the first time, kind of like the feeling of deja vu. “I’ve seen you in a movie,” is talking about meeting someone that feels like they walked out of a movie and into your life. “I heard you in a song” describes a type of person who would get a song written about them. Sometimes, if you get these feelings after your first interaction with a person, it almost seems that nothing could ever go wrong, hence the title of the song.
How did you get connected with David Hugo, and what was it like to collaborate with him on this track?
I met him on the internet. He was an artist that I was listening to a lot at the time, so I wanted to do a session with him. We clicked right away so it was very easy to work with one another. We made this song after knowing each other for one day, and it just felt like this song could never go wrong.
What usually comes first for you, melody or lyrics? Was the process the same or different for this song?
Lately, the melody comes first. I find that my best music comes when the lyrics pop out while I’m messing around with the melody, rather than filling in the melody once it’s finished. For this song, we had this idea and the melody just came out while we were writing it, which is my favorite way of doing it.
Where did the concept for the music video come from?
We wanted to do a music video that felt like a 90s romantic comedy movie. So we started thinking about our favorite ones and took some inspiration from them. I’m really happy with how it turned out.
What was it like to film the music video?
It was a really fun experience. The Vision Kids team that shot the video are amazing. Being that it’s my second time shooting a music video, I think it’s important to have a team that makes you feel comfortable, and that’s exactly what they did. They always make it an exciting and fun time, which makes shooting the video an absolute joy. I couldn’t ask for a better team.
If you could set fans up in the perfect environment to listen to “Never Go Wrong,” what do you imagine it looking like?
Ideally, people can listen to this song at any point throughout the day. We wanted to make something that was fun and easy to listen to. Whether you’re in your car with the windows down under the sun or in your room working on something you love. We hope that you can enjoy it whenever and wherever.
What can fans expect next?
More music! I just quit my full time job to do this! There will be much more this year and the years to come 🙂
What is one quote that you have heard or that you go by that you want to ECHO out to the world?
“If you can’t beat the fear, just do it scared” -Will Smith (I think). Don’t let your fear of failure hold you back… go do the thing!!
