Following her debut release this summer, chill-pop artist Nadine has released an “anthem for the heartbreakers” titled “Three.”
Working alongside her USC Thornton School of Music peers, LA duo FUN SUCKR, Nadine has crafted a brazen track about a love triangle.
ECHO sat down with Nadine to chat about the single, writing, and what fans can look forward to next.
How did you first become interested in music?
I started singing as soon as I could talk. It’s always been my favorite form of communication.
How would you describe your sound?
Pop with some soul elements
Who did you listen to growing up and do they still have an influence on your sound today?
I would always listen to Kelly Clarkson when I was younger, she has totally inspired me and brought out this sass in me that I now put into my music.
What was the inspiration for your latest single “Three”?
It was inspired by the idea of an intense love triangle, from the perspective of the heartbreaker.
What was the writing process like?
My two best friends (FUN SUCKR) and I got together one night almost a year ago, sat down in my room, drank three bottles of wine and went to town with this idea. We finished the song that night, with just a few tweaks throughout the process.
How did you get connected with FUN SUCKR and what was it like working with them on the track?
I met Zoe and Sam of FUN SUCKR in school at USC. We quickly became extremely close friends in both the social aspect and in our musical lives too. I couldn’t have asked for better people to work on music with.
You’ve mentioned that this song is an “anthem for the heartbreakers, rather than the heartbroken.” What drew you to writing from that perspective?
We just thought it was a take that hasn’t been elaborated on very much. We loved the idea of someone being torn between someone she should conventionally be with and someone she knows is bad for her.
If you could set your fans up in the perfect environment to listen to “Three” what do you imagine it looking like?
I personally love listening to “Three” in my car alone. I blast it while driving at night and just sing my heart out.
What can fans expect next?
Lots of music coming super soon!!
