At 15 years old, Nico Annello has already captured the attention of Tik Tok and YouTube fans with his viral videos and covers.
Now Annello is telling his story in the debut single, “Forever.” Since its release, Annello has shared two more original singles, “ I Wanna Be Your Man” and “What’s It Gonna Be.”
ECHO recently had the chance to chat with Annello about the new releases, fans, musical aspirations, Tik Tok and making music independently.
For people who aren’t familiar with your music, how would you describe your sound?
I make pop music that would remind someone of Why Don’t We, Ruel, Ed Sheeran, Shawn Mendes.
Who are some of your musical inspirations?
I’m inspired by artists like Ruel and Khalid. It would be really cool to collab with them one day.
What was the writing process like for your new single, “Forever”?
Working with my creative team on Forever really helped me to understand how to take an idea and turn it into a catchy song that replays in your head over and over again.
If you could set up your fans in the perfect environment to listen to “Forever,” what would it look like?
I think that “Forever” is the type of song that you can enjoy in any type of mood or location. Girls have fun dancing to it with their friends, but I also think you can play it in your headphones by yourself and still have a lot of fun with it.
You released “Forever” independently, what was that like?
Thanks to the support of my dad and my manager we’ve been able to get “Forever” exposure even though we don’t have a record label helping. There are over 7,000 different Tik Toks made to it that add up to over 30,000,000 views. My fans are very supportive and they have been sharing it like crazy so every day we see the Spotify streams go up. I think that this is just the beginning.
How has it been to see your music received so positively?
I have the best fans in the world and it makes me so happy to see that people are having a good time listening to my music. I can’t wait to put out more songs for them to vibe to.
What first inspired you to get into music?
Definitely my sister Sophia. She’s a great performer and songwriter. I would always sing cover songs with her and seeing her have success with her own original music motivated me to do the same. My dad is very passionate about encouraging us to pursue our dreams.
Your sister, Sophia Annello is already an established singer/songwriter. Has she given you any advice on your career?
She has taught me how important it is to work hard and to believe in myself.
You have a big following on Tik Tok. What got you into posting there?
I started posting Tik Toks just for fun and next thing I knew my followers started growing. It’s a great way to connect with fans. I share my cover videos on there and sometimes make funny ones that show the goofier side of my personality.
What is one piece of advice that you would like to ECHO out to your fans and the world?
Be kind to others because you never know what someone is going through. The world needs more love.
What can fans expect next?
I’ll be putting out tons of new music over the next couple months. I can’t wait to share it with you all. There are also some special projects in the works that I can’t share too much info on yet. So just stay tuned 🙂
