EXCLUSIVE: Caitlynne Curtis Talks New Anthem “I Will Survive”

In 2021, Caitlynne Curtis celebrated reaching #1 on Billboard rap sales with “God We Need You Now.” This notable achievement wasn’t just happenstance, but was the result of years of determination and perseverance.

Curtis always knew she wanted to be a singer. She recalls vivid memories of performing for her grandmother at age 3. Her passion led her to Nashville and eventually the X Factor stage by age 16. After a heartbreaking rejection from the talent competition, she searched for purpose somewhere else.

That purpose arrived at age 19 with the birth of her son, which changed everything. However, one thing remained constant, her love for music. By day she sold cars to support her and her son and by night she was recording instagram covers.

13 years after moving to Nashville, Curtis is finally sharing her own songs and stories.

Her new single “I Will Survive,” via Angels & Outlaws puts Curtis’ journey into song, and is ultimately an anthem for the mothers, daughters, entrepreneurs, artists, sisters, wives, friends, and role models who persevered.

We chatted with Caitlynne Curtis about the single, touring, and more!

What inspired your new single “I Will Survive”?

My son Inspired my new single “I Will Survive”

What was the writing process like?

The writing process was actually very easy. I was hanging out with my son on a Saturday, I believe. Playing my guitar for him. I started humming the melody and he said I should write a song for him. And then I started putting the words to it and from there it turned into a beautiful song about how my son showed me what life is all about!

Is there anything that you realized about your experience as a Mom through writing the song?

I realized that children really change us. And for the better. My son helped me grow into the person I am today.

Your son sings on the end of the song. What was it like having your son involved?

It was amazing! I was so proud seeing how natural he was with the recording process. I definitely cried! Momma passed him the singing genes for sure!!

If you could set up fans in the perfect environment to listen to “I Will Survive,” what do you imagine it looking like?

I would imagine everyone with their families or friends. Smiling and dancing to this song. Birthday parties. Get togethers. Walking the dogs. I wanted this song to be uplifting and bring fun and joy to everyone’s homes!

How do you hope people feel after listening to the song?

I hope they have the biggest smiles on their beautiful faces! And I hope they hug their babies so tight after!

How has tour been?

Tour has been fun! It’s hard being away from home, but meeting all the fans and hearing their stories is so inspiring.

What can fans look forward to next?

You can be sure I’m keeping up the fun music! Really wanting to bring a summer full of upbeat jams to raise everyone’s spirits!

What is one quote that you have heard or that you go by that you want to ECHO out to the world?

If at first you don’t succeed. Try again! AND AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN!
