On August 12, multi-Platinum artist Kehlani and twelve-time Grammy winner Babyface released their collaborative track “Seamless.” The song comes from Babyface’s newest album Girls Night Out, which consists of collaborations with successful female R&B artists, and follows his recent collaborative effort with Ella Mai, “Keeps On Fallin’.”
Babyface and Kehlani are a dynamic pairing. Babyface mentioned that, “I worked with Kehlani many years ago and I am just so proud of who she has become as an artist… I am really honored to have her collaborate with me many years later for such a special project.” The duo’s style and voices blend to tell the story of a dramatic night out and the falling out between a couple, with raw lyrics like “You be tryna rock the boat, I was tryna make it work, tryna make this house a home.”
“Seamless” may be about incompatibility in love, but sonically, the track stays true to its title. The dreamy R&B vibe is encapsulated by intricate percussive elements, soft guitar peppering the verses, and richly layered harmonies. Kehlani floats through each chorus but shows an edge in the verses, sharing her vocal versatility on the lead while matching Babyface’s background vocals. Each element blends together effortlessly to create a listening experience that truly is seamless.
Kehlani is currently on The Blue Water Road Trip, showcasing her third album blue water road. Girls Night Out will be available on October 21.
