Twenty-three-year-old Love You Later has always found comfort in the company of supportive fans, family, and friends. That community has been both a blessing and a curse because it has never given her the opportunity to find peace in being alone.
This struggle has inspired her latest single, “Keepintouch.” The alt-pop earworm, written with the support of co-writers Bre Kennedy and Kyle Dreaden, journeys through what it means to be alone and the fear that comes with it.
We chatted with Love You Later about the single, what fans can look forward to next, and more!
What inspired your new single “Keepintouch”?
“Keepintouch” was inspired by all true events. It was late summer of last year – my boyfriend had just left for a long tour and, on top of that, some of my closest friends had either left town or started dating people. So, needless to say, I felt super isolated and empty. I had to learn to be alone again and actually enjoy it.
You wrote this song with some of your fellow Nashville songwriters Bre Kennedy and Kyle Dreaden. What was the writing process like?
Kyle and Bre are such talented people but also some of the kindest people, so it makes creating with them such a fulfilling experience. The songwriting process for “Keepintouch” was fairly straightforward, yet still so special. The session started out with me explaining what I had been feeling and what I wanted to write about. Kyle was mainly working on the track and Bre and I dove into writing the lyrics. Kyle and Bre created a safe space for me to share everything and I think that’s why we were able to write the song so effortlessly.
What’s your best advice for learning how to enjoy your own company?
You become a better person when you’re alone and working on yourself. It’s not selfish to want to be alone sometimes, it’s actually the opposite. When you’re by yourself, be mindful of what you’re saying to yourself – try to realign with positive, encouraging thoughts because it makes a huge difference. You can’t be your best self around others if you’re not your best self when it’s just you and your reflection.
If you could set fans up in the perfect environment to listen to “Keepintouch,” what do you imagine it looking like?
I could definitely see a “Keepintouch” listening party happening at the beach in LA with perfect 80 degree weather. Everyone dancing and screaming the song at the top of their lungs, Hannah Montana movie style.
What can fans look forward to next?
I’ve been writing a lot of new stuff, so definitely some more music following this single. I’m also hoping to play more live shows outside of Nashville this year! Excited for what’s to come and I hope you stick around 🙂
What is one quote that you have heard or that you go by that you want to ECHO out to the world?
Don’t take life too seriously, it’s simply not worth it. Negativity doesn’t deserve your precious energy. And don’t skip past the little things that make you happy 🙂
