Penny Lane was in our eyes and now she’s in our ears! Almost Famous actress Kate Hudson has made her musical debut with the album Glorious.
From the first few resonant, warm notes of track one, “Gonna Find Out,” listeners are transported back to the days of rock and roll and promised “a fun ride.” That “ride” is revelatory as Hudson settles into the role of singer/songwriter like a seasoned rocker.
This ease is unsurprising as Glorious is the culmination of a lifetime passion for music. “I have always had a room for my piano ever since I began living on my own,” the Oscar nominee shared, “I’ve been caught up writing and witnessing life in songs since I was a child.”
Award winning co-writers Linda Perry and Danny Fujikawa have helped to revive those witnessed moments and feelings with Glorious, which feels both nostalgic and fresh.
After “Gonna Find Out,” Hudson continues to croon in her raspy register through a mix of love songs and heartbreak anthems that blend rock with country, pop, and alternative. The album’s lead single “Talk About Love,” which was released earlier this year, and “Lying To Myself” also introduces a disco element to the track listing.
This fusion of genres highlight the nonlinear love story behind the lyrics from the euphoric joy of “Romeo” to the alt-indie moments that almost break you in “Lying To Myself,” while the healing, string laden “Touch The Light” brings the album to a close.
Hudson confesses, “I didn’t know if it was a crazy dream, but I realized if this was my heart, I needed to surrender to this deep desire. I couldn’t worry about what people thought, I could only do the right thing by the songs inside me…”
Kate Hudson has realized this dream by putting her heart and soul into this album, and it is truly Glorious.
