REVIEW: The Many Elements of Pixar’s Elemental

Pixar has released its latest movie, Elemental, a movie based on the characters who play elements of the Earth; fire, water, earth, and air. The characters reside in Element City where they all learn to live together.

Ember and her family who is a fire family, moved from their hometown to Element City to start a new life and run their own family business. The father, Bernie opened a fire store, for the locals in the section of the city they live in, primarily being fire. Ember learns how to take over the family business eventually so her father can retire. Along the way, Ember learns how to be patient and not loose her temper as much as she does while operating the store. One incident led to the store becoming flooded, where she met a water person named Wade.

From here the story builds forming relationships that spark and flow together. We see Ember learn a lot about herself in this coming-of-age tail side of the story, realizing you deserve to do what makes you happy in life. Another element that made up the movie was love, the unconventional love between water and fire. We see them learn and experience new life, trying to save the city from becoming flooded and along the way, going on some dates. This side of the story is very uplifting and moving, making you cheer for their relationship as drama follows eventually towards the end.

At first, the movie did feel a little rushed, where the climax of the movie felt as if it appeared only 25 minutes into the film. It’s a short watch, making it feel more as if it’s meant to be on streaming services, but the watch overall is cute, uplifting and “lights a fire in your heart.”

Pixar’s Elemental is sparking a flame in theaters now.
