Mamii Brings Soulful Energy to Smino’s Sold-Out Boston Show

Roadrunner was packed to capacity Saturday night as Smino’s “Kountry Kousins” tour came to Boston, but it was opener Mamii who first captured the crowd’s attention with her magnetic stage presence and silky vocals.

Performing songs from her catalog, Mamii delivered a tight set that showcased her range as both a solo artist and collaborator. The highlight came when she performed “Guard Your Love” from her recent album Phantasmagoria, a project that demonstrates her evolution as an artist. Her vocals floated effortlessly which set the perfect tone for the evening.

The real crowd-pleaser arrived at the end of her set when Mamii launched into “NONCHALANT,” the Westside Boogie track she’s featured on. Having performed the song at NPR’s Tiny Desk, she brought that same intimate energy to the much larger Roadrunner stage, with the Boston audience singing along to every word.

But the night held an unexpected treat, Mamii returned to the stage to stay for most of Smino’s headlining set, providing backup vocals that added layers to his already smooth soundscape. Her seamless integration into his performance showed the natural chemistry between the two artists and elevated the entire show beyond what anyone in the audience expected.

For a sold-out Saturday night in Boston, Mamii proved she’s more than ready to headline stages of her own while still being an invaluable collaborator.
