Alternative rock band, Wild Truth are exploring a new sound with their latest EP ‘Drift’ via Open Your Ears Records.
The new EP navigates the stages of self-discovery through a unique concoction of Walk The Moon inspired melodies and Brandon Urie style vocals.
We chatted with Wild Truth about the EP, the “No Filter” music video, and more!
How did you all get connected?
We all grew up in the Virginia Beach area playing in different bands. We’ve been friends and musical allies for over 10 years.
Where does the name Wild Truth come from?
The book “The Wild Truth” by Carine McCandless
What was the writing and production process like for your new EP ‘Drift’?
We started writing new songs in summer of 2019. After writing about 10 demos we narrowed down to the 5 songs on the EP. We took a more “Live” approach to the writing and let our strong suits as musicians shine through on the songs more than our previous singles.
What has it been like to see everyone’s response to ‘Drift’?
It’s been great to see people resonating with the tunes, makes us very excited to put out more music.
Do you have a favorite song off the EP and why?
“The River” is probably our collective favorite because we all had to really work together to make it come to life, it took the longest to finish
What inspired the lead single off the EP, “No Filter”?
We felt “No Filter” would be a good bridge song from our previous sound. It’s a happy sounding song with a somber message and we’ve always liked songs like that
Where did the concept for the video come from?
We worked with Altamira in RVA to get the concept together. It’s our own take on feelings of nostalgia, good and bad.
What was it like to film the music video?
Filming the music video was really fun, it was nothing but laughs all day and good vibes. We didn’t overthink it, we just made a plan and stuck to it, and we’re happy with how it turned out.
How fun was it to go through all your old home videos?
It was really fun, we all had to dive deep in the family archives. It was stuff we had never even seen before so it was cool to revisit the memories of our youth, before we even really played music or knew each other.
If you could set fans up in the perfect environment to listen to your new EP ‘Drift,’ what do you imagine it looking like?
Driving at night in the city with an aching heart
What can fans look forward to next?
More of us trying to write the best music we can, and hopefully waaaaay more shows.
What is one quote that you have heard or that you go by that you want to ECHO out to the world?
Simplicity Is not stupidity – Steve Jordan
