Over the last few months, thousands of fans have discovered R&B newcomer goodboy noah through his Tik Tok music videos, entertaining drawing tutorials, and quirky personality.
Noah’s unique, fun and easy-going style is on full display with his solo debut EP ‘nice.’ The five track EP features melodic R&B singles including his latest sultry track, “tie down.”
We chatted with the Toronto native about his EP, his musical influences, and how his latest single “tie down” was created through a writing challenge.
How did you first become interested in music?
Well it all started with Rafi. He had some real slappers catered to young lads. And from there, my interest in music blossomed.
Who did you listen to growing up and do they have an influence on your music today?
After Rafi, I started listening to RnB pretty much exclusively. Boyz II Men, Neyo, Lauryn Hill, Usher, and Mary J are a few that come to mind. They 100% had an enormous influence on my music and taste when creating.
You just released your debut EP, ‘nice.’ What was the process like creating this project?
The process was super easy since I made it with my best friends. It was pretty much made during the first half of the pandemic, so we did a lot remotely. But since we’re all so close, we were able to still work in person a lot.
What’s your favorite song off the EP and why?
My favorite song is probably “dumb’” cuz its so fun and silly.
What was the inspiration for your single, “Tie Down”?
Well, my friend Cam told me he was going to propose to his then girlfriend. He said, “I’m gonna tie her down bro” and I said “that’s a weird way to say that, I’m gonna use that in a song.”
You wrote “tie down” with Dan Henig (ZAYN, Noah Cyrus, Chelsea Cutler) and Micah Gordon (Cautious Clay, Neon Trees). How did you get connected with them and what was it like to work together on the track?
Dan challenged us to write a love song without the word love. I connected with Dan at a singles mixer. Didn’t meet any women, but me and Dan really hit it off. Micah I’ve known since high school when we met at a singles mixer. It was great to work together, since we’re all best friends.
If you could set fans up in the perfect environment to listen to your EP, what do you imagine it looking like?
I would say, get a nice quilted blanket, a bottle of Schnapps, some brie cheese, and an assortment of crackers, and go down to the old creek there to just vibe out.
What can fans look forward to next?
I’ve got so much music in the can, and this EP is just a little taste of what’s to come.
What is one quote that you have heard or that you go by that you want to ECHO out to the world?
When life gives you lemons, don’t sweat the small stuff.
