Eddie Murphy Returns as Axel Foley in ‘Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F’ with New Adventures and Old Friends

It’s been nearly 30 years since we last saw the fast-talking Detroit cop, but he’s finally back with a new case in Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F. Axel Foley is once again patrolling the streets of Beverly Hills, reuniting with old friends and making new ones—possibly even a family member. As producer Jerry Bruckheimer (Top Gun: Maverick, The Rock) tells Tudum, “Eddie’s an incredible artist. He can do drama, comedy—anything. And he’s the same Axel Foley. He’s still on the streets, doing what he does. Obviously, with age comes wisdom, but he still has that twinkle in his eye.”

In other words, Axel has only gotten better over the years, and so has Murphy. Director Mark Molloy mentions, “Some of the funniest moments in Axel F are when Eddie is improvising. My job was to create the right environment and cast the right people around Eddie to let him do what he does best.”

One of those new cast members is Joseph Gordon-Levitt, playing BHPD officer Bobby Abbott. For Gordon-Levitt, working alongside Murphy was a dream come true. He recalls watching the original Beverly Hills Cop at a very young age and learning to play the iconic theme song on his grandfather’s piano.
