Hold up! Wait a minute, let us tell you about Ava Max in Boston during pride month. Three years after her debut album, Heaven & Hell, the up and coming pop superstar is finally on tour supporting her sophomore album, Diamonds & Dancefloors. The pop powerhouse has shown tremendous musical growth, from her more bubblegum pop sounding songs, which are actual bops, to her more 80’s synthesized pop club sound.
Before Ava Max went on, openers, The Scarlet Opera performed for 25 minutes. The theatrical band was quickly a crowd favorite, as the lead singer, Luka was dressed up in a sheer body suit, sunglasses, and boa, giving Freddie Mercury vibes. The band formed back in 2020, during the pandemic, writing most of their music over Zoom. However, their energy and resonate lyrics would make you believe otherwise. It being pride month, and it being an Ava Max show, the LGTBQ+ crowd showed up and for once, Boston felt like a club full of positive energy. Despite the lack of A/C inside Paradise Rock Club, the crowd danced all the way until the dancing was done to songs such as the sultry “Dancing’s Done,” her contagious “Sleepwalker,” her clubby “Hold Up (Wait A Minute)” and of course some of her anthemic classics “Kings & Queens” and “Sweet But Psycho” and for her original fans “Salt.” The fans gave all their warm energy to the pop star, especially on the last song, “The Motto” when the song had technical issues and the track cut off mid-way, the crowd kept the energy going by singing the rest of the song with Ava.
