With a genre-crossing sound, and lyrics that clearly convey the feelings likely experienced by anyone who has gone through a breakup, Emily Hackett has created a single that we can all get behind.
As stated on Hackett’s YouTube page, she “is the rare songwriter who doesn’t just pour her heart into her lyrics- she inspires every listener to reach a deeper honesty in their own lives.” Her talents have gained her recognition from Billboard and Refinery29, among others, and made her part of CMT’s “Next Women of Country” Class of 2019, according to a press release.
The songwriting qualities that Hackett possesses are made evidently clear through the Nashville-based singer/songwriter’s “Hangovers & Heartbreaks,” released on Valentine’s Day, February 14.
The bittersweet single sounds like a country song if you want it to, and doesn’t if you don’t want it to, making it an easy listen for fans of various genres. The song’s focus on the the feeling of regret after drinking, and the pull towards someone with whom there is history with, is a smart, honest, and even a painful metaphor.
As if the raw emotion of the lyrics, specifically those in the chorus and bridge weren’t enough. Hackett’s vocals make their effect even more powerful.
Be sure to listen to “Hangovers and Heartbreak” a few times through to pick up on all of the lyrics, exciting arrangement, and Hackett’s impressive vocal ability.
“Hangovers and Heartbreak” is now available to stream on all streaming platforms.
