Jake Scott, with support from Brynn Cartelli and ROSIE, has been bringing “good days” and “good vibes” across North America with his 21 city headlining Lavender Tour. On November 4, Brynn and ROSIE returned to Boston, and introduced Jake, an Arkansas native, to a city they called home.
“It’s so good to be home,” Brynn, a Longmeadow, MA native, shared as she took to the Boston stage with a crowd full of family, friends, and fans.
Beginning with “Mascara,” Brynn sang through a seven song set, taking breaks to provide insight into the meaning behind each song including “Love You In My Mind,” a song that she wrote at 19 that still rings true today, and “Girl Code,” a song about being introduced to a boy by a friend, but not wanting to break girl code by pursuing him.
She ended the set with “Convertible in the Rain,” her newest release. Although Brynn wasn’t expecting the crowd to know the words yet, you could hear every word echoed back to her by the end.
Even without a band, Brynn captivated the audience with just a guitar, piano, her infectious energy, and emotional relatability.
During ROSIE’s set, the Berklee alum dug even deeper into emotions and encouraged the audience to feel every one of them. “Whatever is in your heart, you’re just going to let it out,” she urged before performing “Next Life,” a song dedicated to her self esteem and mental health journey. Other songs on her setlist included “Sad Sad Sad” and “Never the 1.”
The simple and intimate light of Brynn and Rosie’s set was contrasted by bright, choreographed lighting. Flashing red lights, guitar and drums that beckoned Jake Scott on stage.
Much of his set and many of his songs served as an ode to his wife Rachel, including his song “Lavender” that detailed the fateful day they first met. “She’s everything to me, my inspiration,” he raved.
In addition to the “Lavender,” Jake’s set included other sneak peaks of his debut album dropping Spring 2023 featuring his favorite song he’s ever written.
Jake also surprised fans with a cover of Taylor Swift’s “All Too Well,” the 5 minute version. “ I can’t even remember my songs. There’s no way I can remember 10 minutes of this,” he teased.
Between commentary and anecdotes, Jake was always engaged with the audience. Throughout his whole set, he was either dancing around in the crowd, taking BeReals, or pointing out longtime fans in the crowd.
He ended his performance with “Favorite T-Shirt” and “Tuesdays,” “the more I sing it, the more I mean it,” he shared of the love song.
