“Boston you’re my favorite. You know why? You’re drunk and you’re filthy,” King Princess yelled to the crowd during her 24 city Hold On Baby tour with “Dirty Boston.”
Supported by St. Panther, and local drag queens Static and Throb Zombie, the singer-songwriter performed her title-worthy set.
Energy was high from the moment King Princess stepped on the stage for “Little Bother.” So high that she kicked over her water bottle. After a brief pause for cleanup, she was back on track.
“This has been an awful two and a half years in the f*cking world,” she lamented, “but one thing that it did do is it encouraged me and reminded me of how lucky I am to have you guys here” she told the crowd as she returned to the stage after her 2 year hiatus and new release of her album Hold on Baby.
Whether the fans had been around since “1950” or were introduced thorough her latest album, all sang every word of “very intimate and lesbian” tracks like “Change” to “Prophet,” a favorite of her Cheap Queen album and a tour debut.
For King Princess, this show wasn’t just about performing, but also getting to interact with her “chosen family.” Whether it was a quick exchange with an audience member, singing at the edge of the stage, or belting a resonating lyric, King Princess made everyone attending feel seen and included.
Before “Hit The Back,” King Princess pointed out an audience member, “I told you I’d sing your song to you.” Following a piano interlude, she hopped off stage and joined the elated fan in the crowd. “I promised,” she told the fan before singing the rest of the song.
As much as King Princess made her fans feel welcome, fans reciprocated with cheers and matched energy. She explained, “it means a lot to me when you take videos of the songs that aren’t singles or aren’t my main songs because it means that you really care and that makes me so happy because every song that I make I put my heart into, and these guys f*cking put their heart into on stage. And we’re living in this f*cking world where it’s all about TikTok and the singles and bullshit. It means a lot to me when I see you guys mouthing the words and f*cking videotaping these songs. Maybe that’s a song that helped me through depression or something and now it’s helping you.”
King Princess closed her set with “Ohio,” and quickly responded to the cheering crowd for an encore.
“You miss me or something,” she teased before putting her spin on Hole’s “Celebrity Skin.”
She finished the performance with “Hold on Baby,” “Sex Shop,” and “Let Us Die,” while showering the crowd with “thank you’s.”
