On Wednesday, Issa Rae and Kumail Nanjiani revealed the 30th Annual Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Award nominations in a special presentation broadcast via the SAG Awards’ and Netflix‘s Instagram Live.
After battling it out at the box office and Golden Globes, “Barbenheimer” is going head to head again at this year’s SAG awards. Both films were nominated in four categories out of six film categories, including Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture with fellow nominees American Fiction, The Color Purple, Killer of the Flower Moon, and Oppenheimer.
Killers of the Flower Moon followed close behind with three nominations despite some feeling that one of the film’s leads, Leonardo DiCaprio, was “snubbed.”
Of nine television categories, Succession received six nods. This follows their five Golden Globe wins at the January 7 ceremony.
Some returning nominees include television shows Abbott Elementary, The Crown, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Barry, The Bear, and Only Murders in the Building, as well as actors Jeremy Allen White and Emily Blunt.
Last month, it was announced that EGOT winner Barbra Streisand will be honored with the SAG Life Achievement Award. “Barbra Streisand is an icon and unparalleled talent, a force of nature who has seamlessly woven her brilliance through the fabric of our industry. From her earliest days captivating audiences on Broadway to her unforgettable roles in cinematic classics like Funny Girl, The Way We Were, and A Star Is Born, Barbra’s ability to inhabit her characters with authenticity is nothing short of extraordinary,” SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher shared in a recent press release.
The 30th annual SAG Awards will be aired live on Netflix p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET from L.A.’s Shrine Auditorium following the acceptance of a multi-year partnership with the streaming service.
This follows last year’s historic SAG-AFTRA strike regarding contract disputes.
Credits for the broadcast include Silent House Productions (Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour and Carol Burnett: 90 Years of Laughter + Love), with executive producers Jon Brockett, Baz Halpin, Mark Bracco, and Linda Gierahn.
