Yoshi Flower is coming in hot with his multi-single release of his original track “Faking Sleep” along with a B-side cover of The Cure’s “Boys Don’t Cry”. He isn’t afraid to cross genres and create his own unique sound.
On his single “Faking Sleep,” Yoshi continues to break barriers and lets the listener see his vulnerable side. In reference to how he is navigating his mental health with the current world climate, Yoshi poetically states, “It’s about reconciling this past year and trying to fall asleep every night with this gas leak of global context seeping into our everyday lives. You just have to go on with things and be optimistic where you can while being a good person.”
In the video directed by Josh Flores, we see the hybrid artist in an ethereal dream-like state whilst singing over layered instrumentals and trap-like beats. Yoshi showcases both his soothing vocals and intricate lyrics that create a moment around life’s harsh realities.
With his first track since 2019, the Detroit rocker has hit on the poignant topic of mental health and the stigma surrounding it. Coming off the storm of 2020, his music is sure to strike a chord with listeners. Offering a modern blend of punk, hip-hop and rock, Yoshi will continue to share his tailored sound to a modern generation open to a multitude of genres. Watch the video HERE. Yoshi also shares a cover of The Cure’s 1980’s single, “Boys Don’t Cry.” Listen HERE.
