Taylor Swift announced a surprise 8th studio album on Thursday, July 23 and fans lost it. Swift originally was going to tour this summer but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, she cancelled her two shows set in Los Angeles, and Foxboro. With her shows not happening, Swift did the next best thing and released a brand new album, titled folklore.
The new album sees Swift going back to her, in a way country roots. With every song having that authentic singer/songwriter, indie-pop feel to it. Swift worked with Bon Iver, the National’s Aaron and Bryce Dessner, Jack Antonoff and more on her surprise Lover follow up.
Swift wrote the album and recored folklore in isolation. Her video for “cardigan,” directed by Swift is a Chronicles of Narnia style visual where she travels to a magical forest through her piano. The video ends with a message: “A special thank you to our on set medics, COVID-19 compliance personnel and the crew for operating under the strictest guidelines including wearing PPE, practicing thorough sanitization and respecting social distancing during the video shoot.”
