Sabrina Carpenter has us pouring over her caffeinated new single “espresso.”
Anything but bitter, Sabrina told Vogue, the anthem is “about seeing femininity as your super power, and embracing the confidence of being that b*tch.”
That confidence percolates through flirtatious and innuendo-rich lyrics like “My honeybee, come and get this pollen,” and “Move it up, down, left, right, oh/Switch it up like Nintendo.” The blush worthy lyrics continue as Sabrina promises to keep her lover up all night with “Say you can’t sleep, baby, I know/That’s that me, espresso.”
The single is served up alongside a mid-century modern inspired video directed by Dave Meyers. The glowing visual follows Sabrina, a fugitive, as she evades the police while tanninng, surfing, and dancing across pastel beaches.
This vintage aesthetic also spilled over into her blue motel Coachella performance.
“espresso’s” care-free vibes give listeners a sip of Sabrina’s next era, and leaves a luxurious aftertaste that keeps us coming back for more.
