After releasing their latest album Lockjaw on June 28th, Frances Forever embarked on their first-ever headlining tour across several northeastern cities, including Toronto, Chicago, Washington D.C., and New York. The tour wrapped up at The Sinclair in Cambridge, MA on July 18th, with Frances reflecting on how far they have come since the start of their career.
It’s undeniable that Frances & Friends care deeply about the live experience. Every night of Lockjaw Tour had a dedicated theme and dress code based on Frances’ songs. Boston’s theme was “Paranoia Party,” inspired by the 2021 track of the same name. Everywhere you looked were flowy dresses covered in glitter, faces smudged with mascara, and party hats worn by fans, friends, and loved ones — even Frances’ parents.
In addition to the camaraderie created through the theme, the show felt incredibly personal thanks to Frances’ intimate lyrics of tender heartbreak (“Too Soft”), nonconformity (“Troll”), and the daily struggles of ADHD (“Stuck”), as well as moments like Frances asking fans to sit on the floor before playing “Frankenstein,” and Grace Gardner singing along during “Baby Bangs.” It’s hard not to feel at home when anthems for hopeless romantics and the socially anxious are as loud as can be.
Frances has an infectious onstage charisma and endearing lyricism bound to touch hearts wherever their passion takes them next.
