Sweet Taboo has already caught the attention of top pop music acts like DJ Khaled, Kehlani, and Bia. Now they are about to be on your radar too.
The LA-based, Latina girl group blends R&B, Hip Hop, and Latin vibes to create infectious tracks with a message of female empowerment and pride.
Singers Jen Torrejon and Sami Ramos, and rapper ICP Bre took a break from working in the studio to chat about their new single “Lil Bit,” upcoming music, and more!
What inspired your new single, “Lil Bit”?
“Lil Bit” was inspired by all of us getting ready together and ICP Bre asked us if she needed to fix her lipstick and we responded with ‘just a lil bit’. We started chanting ‘just a little bit’ and we couldn’t get it out of our heads, so we turned it into a song!
What was the production process like for the single?
The production process was definitely a lot of work, but a lot of fun! We wrote the song during the beginning of quarantine, and we did the sessions over Zoom with our homies Tima Dee and Amelia Moore. Off Da Grid produced the beat and we went into the studio individually to cut our vocals because we couldn’t be in the same room with the quarantine restrictions at that time.
The track definitely gives JLo vibes! Who are your musical inspirations?
One of our musical inspirations is definitely JLo so that is a blessing to hear! We’re also inspired by TLC, Destiny’s Child, Selena Quintanilla, Notorious B.I.G., and the beautiful Kehlani! Kehlani reposted our cover that we did to “Nights Like This” OMG!
I loved the 90s/Y2K vibes of the music video! Where did the concept come from for the video and what was it like to film it?
We collaborated with V from London Alley, she’s an amazing Latina female director! The concept came from the idea of us wanting to show some confident female power. We wanted to show us performing, dancing, getting our nails done, and hitting the switches in a lowrider. S/O to Felli Fel from Power 106 for letting us use his car. It was definitely one for the books. We enjoyed the whole process and had a lot of fun.
If you could set fans up in the perfect environment to listen to “Lil Bit,” what do you imagine it looking like?
“Lil Bit” definitely gives a lil bit of party vibes and a lil bit of weekend kickback vibes. The perfect environment would be listening to it in your backyard with your friends and turning it up.
What do you hope fans take away from listening to your music?
At the end of the day, our overall purpose is to be a voice for those who don’t. We’re all about women’s empowerment but also empowering everybody in general. We want people to love themselves just the way they are. We feel there are a lot of people who NEED and SHOULD feel confident in who they are, but don’t. We’re want to give others that hype and motivation!
You’re cover of TLC’s “No Scrubs” recently premiered on the Grammy.com series ‘Reimagined At Home.’. What song do you want to cover next?
That was an amazing opportunity and we had so much fun covering a female group that we look up to. TLC is an inspiration to us, and it was our first time performing with a band. We definitely want to do a Lauryn Hill song or even a Bad Bunny song 😉
What can fans look forward to next?
Our fans can definitely look forward to our EP that we’re currently working on. We’re excited to show y’all these bangers that we have on the way. We’re working on songs from some cool producers like Malay, Johnny Goldstein, KBeazy, and Keith Harris.
What is one quote that you have heard or that you go by that you want to ECHO out to the world?
