Sibling duo Stereo Jane have released their newest single, “Strangers.”
ECHO chatted with Sydney and Mia about the inspiration for the track, their name and what fans can expect next.
Where did the inspiration for your new single, “Strangers” come from?
We wrote the song after Syd went through a pretty terrible breakup. It was written about a week after everything went down!
What did the writing and recording process for “Strangers” look like?
We showed up to a studio session and started talking about the breakup and how rough it had been the past week. Sydney started talking about how much she wanted her ex to see her out at a bar talking to a stranger. She wanted him to feel as horrible as she felt at the moment. The song pretty much wrote itself from there!
If you could set fans up in the perfect environment to listen to “Strangers,” what do you imagine it looking like?
A kickback would be the perfect environment to listen to “Strangers.” We always show our music to our friends in that kind of setting! We’ve both been at parties and blasted the song to get a reaction out of people!
When did you first discover your passions for music?
We were around 5 years old when we started playing. Our dad was in a bar band so music was something we were constantly around. It’s always been the band from day 1!
You’re sisters. What is it like working with your sibling?
Being sisters makes it easier for us to be straight up with each other. We’ve been creating and playing together forever so it’s really natural.
Where did the name Stereo Jane come from?
It actually used to be “See Jane Rock” based off of the children’s books “Dick and Jane”. We were reading the books when we came up with the name. We eventually grew out of it when we were older and decided to keep “Jane” for nostalgia and add “Stereo” for two (twins)!
For people who aren’t familiar with your sound, how would you describe it?
It’s Pop/Alternative with some rock influences!
What can fans expect next?
We’re planning on releasing music as soon as things start picking up! This pandemic has really changed up the music industry so we’re writing and rehearsing a lot right now!
What is a quote that you’ve heard and/or you go by that you want to ECHO out to the world?
When we were younger we got bullied for doing something different than the other kids. Since then, we’ve always stood by the term “Normal is boring”
