Excerpt from the podcast:
You mentioned earlier about being more of a storyteller with your new music. You just released “Afterglow” What inspired that song?
I was introduced to the song in January. I have a co-writer, her name is Sadie, she made the song and then we were working on it together. What really influenced it was, I was in a relationship in January, so I kind of like based it off of that and like the feeling of being in a new relationship.
How did you get connected with Sadie and what was it like working alongside her to make the song more yours?
My producers actually, they know Sadie and they were showing me the song and stuff and I was like, I love this song so much. So then we worked on it together. It was such a fun experience because I never really did that before. I’ve only worked with my producers, singing-wise, other than Kidz Bop. It was like a really fun experience.
Is there a specific lyric in there that you really love?
Yes. So there’s this line in my song, ‘guess we missed karaoke. I’m obsessed with you low key.’ I love that line. I don’t know why. I get obsessed with certain parts of songs, soI love that part.
If you could set fans up in the perfect environment to listen to “Afterglow,” what do you imagine it looking like?
I’ve thought about this so much. There’s this world that I’ve thought of ever since I was a little. There’s grass everywhere, it’s kind of like a forest, but there’s this huge place without trees, there’s like trees around you. It’s just like, this really pretty [spot] the sun’s hitting the grass and it’s a pretty green color. There’s flowers everywhere and stuff. That’s kind of where I imagine people listening to it. Mike, one of those like flower dresses and stuff.
