Fresh off the release of his powerful singles “Blank Space” and “Who You Liked” (“WYL”), Newcomer clide is back with his debut EP, ‘In My Mind.’
Through emotive tracks, clide exposes his thoughts through unapologetic songwriting.
We chatted with the Berlin-raised artist about the EP, inspiration and more!
How did you first get interested in music?
I come from a family of classical musicians, but the moment I actually realized I wanna make music is when I started to get into production and songwriting. First being inspired by EDM music and DJs like Martin Garrix, Avicii, David Guetta etc.
Who did you listen to growing up and do they have an influence on your sound today?
Because my parents wouldn’t hear music at home after they came back from their own rehearsals, I really grew up with what was playing on the radio… so I was probably shaped to make pop music haha!
You grew up in Berlin. Did growing up there have any influence on your music?
I guess it did, because our surroundings make us who we are, but tbh I didn’t even want to become a musician until I was 16. When I grew up I actually wanted to become a professional footballer (soccer player) haha.
What was the inspiration for your recent single “Who You Liked”?
I literally woke up one morning dreaming about a girl I liked, and it seemed so realistic that I was really disappointed it was just a dream.
Then I got up to the piano and wrote the story down… it is one of those that came together super fast and natural, which is why I like it so much. It’s pure and heartfelt.
Congrats on the release of your EP ‘In My Mind.’ What was the writing and production process like for this project?
Thank you so much! I’ve been waiting for this for so long! The EP is basically the first Chapter as an artist/songwriter for me that comes to an end… those are songs I’ve been working on for the past 2-3 years, mostly by myself in my bedroom.
As we started releasing this year, I went to the studio with my guy Pascal Martin, who finished the whole EP with me.
If you could set fans up in the perfect environment to listen to the EP, what do you imagine it looking like?
It would actually be in their bedroom, the same environment that most of these songs were created in. I feel like the best way to connect to my music is in a quiet and thoughtful environment. At least so far!
What has it been like to see such positive reception to your music?
It was incredible and overwhelming but at the same time something I worked for those last years. I wouldn’t say it was surprising in that sense, but it is an incredible reward for the work and passion the whole team and I have put in!
What can fans look forward to next?
There’s a lot going on right now! There might be a few remixes at first, but I’m already working on so much new music that’s gonna drop in 2021.
I’m always trying to innovate and redefine myself as an artist, so let’s see what happens next!;)
What is one quote that you have heard or that you go by that you want to ECHO out to the world?
Dreams come true. <3
