Tate McRae Throws Things Into High Gear with her Seductive Single “Sports car”

Ahead of her highly anticipated third studio album, Tate McRae has pulled up with her steamy new single, “Sports car.”

Earlier this month, her album was leaked online, an artist’s nightmare. However, instead of pumping the breaks, Tate flipped the script and cheekily posted, “U forgot to leak this … Sports car. This Friday,” hinting at the official release of her sultry new track.

Fans who waited for the official drop on Friday, January 24, were not disappointed. The nearly three-minute track reunites fans with Tate’s fierce alter-ego, Tatiana, and channels a Britney Spears-inspired soundscape that blends the addictive beats of “Toxic” with the seductive energy of “Slave 4 U.” Tate’s whispered line, “I think you know what this is,” drives the sound home.

In the accompanying video, directed by Bardia Zeinali, an anonymous viewer steps into a private room and inserts money into a coin slot, triggering a seductive performance from Tate—or perhaps Tatiana— from behind the glass. Although the video does not feature any actual sports cars, it does showcase a line-up of twelve bold looks, styled by Brett Alan Nelson, that range from a leopard print corset to a sheer bodysuit. The video takes a u-turn and ends on a cliffhanger when the anonymous viewer begins to reveal their identity before the screen cuts to black.

Fans online have been buzzing about the absence of a sports car in the video, especially since one appeared prominently in the visual for her previous single, “2 Hands.” Some speculate that this could be a hint at the next single.

Tate’s album So Close to What is expected to officially drop on February 21. You can pre-save the album here.
