Just kicking off his tour, Huddy is feeling the magic of life on the road, from intimate guest appearances to sharing heartfelt moments with family and friends in the crowd. With his long-awaited single “Addicted to You” finally released, he’s eager to connect with fans and reflect on his journey—from his first shows at No Vacancy to headlining in major cities like London. In this exclusive interview, Huddy opens up about the emotional evolution behind his forthcoming album The One, the inspiration he draws from rock icons of Woodstock ’99, and the powerful role of self-confidence and community in his life.
Q: How are you, how’s the tour been? What have the vibes been like?
A: I’m doing great! The vibes have been amazing so far. I’m on the road with my friends, and we just played our first show last night. Before that, I made guest appearances in San Francisco and Sacramento. My parents came out for both shows, and tonight [in Boston], my aunt, uncle, and cousin are coming, so I’m really excited. Even though it’s only day two, it already feels like everything is coming together. I put so much energy into the first show, and I’m having a blast.
Q: I know you recently released “Addicted to You.” How does it feel to finally share it with everyone?
A: I’ve had “Addicted to You” for such a long time, but it was in a bit of an awkward spot. I started teasing it while I was still with my previous record label. After we parted ways, I released other songs I’d created post-deal. But “Addicted to You” was one of those tracks I was unsure if I could ever release. So, it was a process of figuring out how to get the song back so it could finally come out. Now, two years later, it’s finally here, and it feels amazing! It almost feels like it was already out, though, since I’d teased the whole song and even played it every night on my last tour.
Q: Looking back on where you started, at No Vacancy, to where you’re performing now at your career, what has that journey felt like for you?
A: Oh my gosh, it’s been a wild ride. My first show, I only had three songs out, so I remember questioning myself, like, “Why am I doing this? I barely have any music!” But over time, it’s been incredible to build out my setlist, put out more songs, and even start teasing new music for my next album. I’ve grown so much since that first tour, and now I have a whole EP, a growing catalog, and the freedom to switch up the setlist depending on the show. It’s been so fun to play my older music, too, and it’s awesome to see where it all started.
Q: Speaking of your new album, can you tell us about the title, The One, and the inspiration behind title?
A: The One is about embracing self-love. It’s a reminder that if you love yourself enough, you can be “the one” in any area of life. It’s about confidence and self-worth, and knowing that you are unique. I want listeners to feel empowered, like they can pursue their dreams and become their best selves. The album title is meant to be a mantra, reminding everyone that they’ve got what it takes and that life is beautiful.
Q: Who are some people that make you feel like “the one”?
A: My girlfriend and family remind me daily, just through their support and love. My friends and my team are also incredibly encouraging. They fill me up with love that I didn’t know I had for myself. The One really came from wanting to look at myself differently, and it’s about viewing myself with more confidence than I ever had before.
Q: With your album right around the corner, what can fans expect in terms of sound and themes?
A: There’s a lot of emotional variety—anger, sadness, and grief. Recently, I’ve been drawn to rock, nu-metal, and even synth elements. I was inspired by Woodstock ’99 performances from bands like Limp Bizkit and Korn. Watching those sets showed me how powerful live music can be. This album will reflect that energy and range, from lyrics to musical vibes.
Q: What about Woodstock ’99 inspired you?
A: The confidence and raw energy was incredible. Seeing how their music was made for live performances really resonated with me. Performing live adds a whole new layer to music, where it’s about interacting with the crowd and creating a shared experience. Watching Woodstock ’99 inspired me to make music that people could feel deeply, whether it’s sadness, excitement, or the urge to just jump up and mosh.
Q: On the “Addicted to You” cover art, we see a Paris backdrop. What was the story behind that?
A: The music video was inspired by when I first teased the song in a hotel hallway. For this cover, we wandered around Paris to capture that vibe. It was raining, so we used umbrellas, and as we were near the Arc de Triomphe, we found this amazing old car and quickly took the shot in traffic! It was spontaneous, but it felt perfect and captured the classic, timeless feel we wanted.
Q: How does it feel headlining your first show in London later this year?
A: It’s surreal! London is such a huge city with so much energy, so to have my first headline show there was incredible. I’ve been on tours with other artists but never as the headliner, so I’m looking forward to seeing a crowd that’s all there for me. It’s exciting to cap off the “Poly Royale” Tour in Europe this way.
Q: If you could choose an ideal setting for people to listen to Addicted to You, what would it be?
A: I imagine it in a cozy jazz club, sipping on a glass of wine or an espresso martini, with the song playing softly in the background. The music video has this classic, jazzy vibe to it, so that feels like the perfect setting.
Q: What’s one quote that’s stuck with you that you’d like to share with fans?
A: It’s simple, but my grandma always said, “Treat others the way you want to be treated.” It’s something we hear a lot, but it’s a reminder to be kind. You never know what someone else is going through, so a little kindness can go a long way.
