Renowned Italian actor and recording artist Michele Morrone is continuing his musical journey with 477 Records, an independent Tribeca-based label.
Since 2020, Morrone has poured his heart into two studio albums: Dark Room and Double. This new venture is providing the multi-hyphenate with the freedom to continue to evolve and develop his authentic artistry as he writes his third album.
Ahead of this project, and his upcoming films “Subservience” and “A Simple Favor 2,” we spoke with the global superstar about his forthcoming single “Gold Teeth,” writing from the heart, and what to expect from this exciting new partnership with 477 Records.
Congrats on signing with 477 Records! What drew you to this label, and to working with CEO and founder Zachary William “Bill” Dess (Two Feet)?
Two Feet has been a favorite artist of mine for years. I love his music, and Zach was always one of my favorite heroes in the music industry. I also like the fact that 477 is an independent label, which gives me the opportunity to find my “true me’” in my music.
What are you most excited about for this new partnership?
I became part of the 477 family without even thinking about it, they were so welcoming. They’re giving me the opportunity to express myself the way I want, and especially to let me be myself. They’re working with me on production to make the kind of music I like, which I think other people will like because it’s real.
One of your first releases through 477 Records will be the single “Gold Teeth”? What is the inspiration behind that song and how is it inspiring your upcoming third studio album?
“Gold Teeth” is the expression of the magic that exploded in the studio between me, Zach and Hufford. As soon as we found the key of the song, there was an explosion of emotions between all of us and we put the song together. A fantastic experience. We’ll be releasing the song in September, so stay tuned.
You posted a heartwarming video of you and your son singing at the piano. You explained to him “You don’t want to just sing a song, you want to put your heart in what you’re doing.” How is this new era of your music a reflection of your own heart and who you are as an artist?
I want my kids to live and feel real things in life. To live like I lived when I was a kid. Nowadays people, and especially kids, are confused between what’s real and what’s not. I try to teach my kids, to get them to understand that real life is not what the people want from you, but what you really want from yourself. I’m not in love with this digital era, but I can’t do anything about it. I can just use the digital means at my disposal to spread the message to keep it real, be yourself. And in my new album I’m going to do that, bring out what I want from myself as a musician and singer.
You are both a musician and an actor. Some of your music has even appeared on soundtracks for your films like “365 Days.” How has acting inspired your music, and how has music informed your acting?
Well, it’s super hard to be both! I didn’t choose to be a musician or an actor. It just happened. I guess I was born like that. Sometimes I ask myself why can’t I just love one of the two things? But it’s not a choice, it’s the way you are, I think. Your passion drives you as a person to one thing and another thing, not the contrary. But both aspects of my career are connected, I feel both and think about them constantly.
