The Rolling Stones have returned to the studio after nearly two decades!
The legendary rockers made the exciting announcement in a conversation with Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon at Hackney Studios in London, where they premiered their new single, “Angry,” a headbanger that will leave you anything but.
The melody that you’ll have “ringing in [your] brain” was accompanied by a nostalgic video featuring Sydney Sweeney (Euphoria, The White Lotus). The visual features the Emmy-nominated actress cruising down Sunset Boulevard on the back of a red convertible.
“Angry” is just a taste of their latest album Hackney Diamonds arriving October 20th on Geffen Records.
“I don’t want to be big-headed, but we wouldn’t have put this album out if we didn’t really like it,” Mick Jagger shared of the project they began working on just before Christmas. “Before we went in, we said we want to make a record that we really love ourselves. Other people may like it. Other people may not, but we must say that we are quite pleased with it.”
With a 61-year track record, the band knows what’s good, especially when it comes to titles from Sticky Fingers to Beggers Banquet, and now Hackney Diamonds.
“We were flinging ideas around for titles, and we went from hit and run to smash-and-grab, and somehow between that, we came up with Hackney Diamonds, which is like a variation of the both and we’re also a London band.” Keith Richards shared.
While Jagger quipped, that the title was inspired by “when you get your [car] windscreen broken on Saturday night in Hackney — and all the bits go on the street — that’s Hackney Diamonds.”
It would be remiss not to mention, fourth member Charlie Watts, who passed in 2021 at the age of 80. “Ever since Charlie’s gone, it’s been different. He’s number four. Of course, he’s missed, incredibly,” Keith said.
However, the band revealed that Charlie spent some time in the studio before his passing. His drums can be heard on the “slightly retro” “Live By The Sword,” featuring original Rolling Stones’ bassist Bill Wyman.
Other features include “Sweet Sound Of Heaven” with Lady Gaga and Stevie Wonder.
