His new single, “we would have some cute kids.” is already gaining traction with its fun narrative, catchy lyrics, and idyllic video.

We chatted with Tai about the new single, his upcoming debut album TV, and more!

Excerpt from the podcast:

Can you tell me a little bit about what the inspiration was for your new single, “we would have some cute kids.,” and also what the writing and production process was like?

I wrote that with the same guy I wrote “Drugs” with. It’s so funny that I wrote a song called “Drugs, “ and then “we would have cute kids.” Right? I mean, you gotta be on drugs to say that to somebody, but that’s okay.

The process is – I usually just go around my life and find random little tidbits or I’ll listen to people talk. When I hear things that are like, I don’t know, meaningful, or if I think of something in my head  like, damn, we would have some cute kids when you meet a girl and you’re talking to a girl or you see somebody walk across the street. If you can remember that idea, you should make a whole world around it, right? So I just came into the studio with Adam Freeman, he’s my producer, and I was like, ‘yo, let’s make a song called “we would have some cute kids.” and he was like, ‘let’s do it.’ Then he played that little bit [hums melody] and that was it.

I think a lot of people struggle with the writing process of any song, but when you have an idea – there’s never been a song in the world called “we would have some cute kids.” I’m the first one to write it, so if you’re doing something original, you can literally take no wrong steps. You just go and do what makes you feel good and then that’s going to be the song. You know what I’m saying? You don’t have to think about it too hard.
