EXCLUSIVE: Louis Knight Chats “Maya,” Music Video with Brooklyn Webb and More

After taking some time away to truly hone in on his craft, the now 22-year-old is ready to show the world his next chapter of music. After his single “Burn This All Down” along with a fiery music video marking his first song from his emotional 6-track EP, Knight is back with his latest release, “Maya.” The track is accompanied by an adorable lovestruck music video starring Louis and actress/creator Brooklynn Webb. We chatted with Louis Knight about his new single and more below!

What inspired your song “MAYA”?

I wrote it about falling in love in the Netherlands and wanting to stay in that moment forever. It’s about deciding to jump into the unknown with someone.

What was the writing and production process like?

I started writing “Maya” while I was on a writing retreat in the smokey mountains in Tennessee. I worked on it for a couple months making sure the lyrics were perfect. My friend Francisco Martin ended up helping me finish it! He then produced it for me, which was so much fun working with him on that. I’d always had this vision for the production to be quite a big chorus, 4 on the floor, an acoustic feel. It was so special that he made it come to life.

What was your favorite memory from filming the music video directed by Toby Preyer?

I’d have to say at the beginning of the day when we missed the first train hahaha. We got stuck in traffic on the way to the train station and ended up just missing it. It’s really funny looking back at it, all of us frantically running to the platform alongside each other trying to see if we could make it. At first we were thinking, “what do we do” and it was quite stressful, but then we figured out a plan of action and had such an amazing day together. I couldn’t be happier with how the music video turned out. Toby absolutely killed it!

What was it like working with actress and creator Brooklynn Webb as your co-star?

She is so kind and sweet. Not to mention how talented she is. We had only met briefly a couple times before. As we were pretending to be in love, we ended up getting to know each other very quickly haha.

In the music video you are riding a train in Amsterdam. What is the significance of the train?

I wish we had been able to actually film in Amsterdam but we ended up getting a train on pacific coast highway. It was so beautiful. The girl I wrote this song about, when we were in the Netherlands, we spent a lot of time traveling around together on trains and it was so special. I wanted to try and recreate that moment and feeling.

If you could set fans up in the perfect environment to listen to the single, what do you imagine it looking like?

I love this question!!! I’d say be on a train to Maastricht with headphones on, looking out of the window or over at their significant other!

What can fans expect from your upcoming EP?

It’s a deep dive into where I’ve been mentally over the last 2 years, and the stories that I’ve lived. A big theme of this EP is hope

Do you have a favorite song on the EP?

I’d say, “When The Words Start Running Out” or the interlude!

Happy belated 22nd birthday! What do you hope to achieve this year?

Thank you so much. I hope to achieve a million monthly listeners on Spotify, and to be a supporting act on a major tour!

What is one quote that you have heard or that you go by that you want to ECHO out to the world?

“If it makes you happy, it doesn’t have to make sense to anyone else” and also “Small Victories” is the biggest phrase I live by.

Thank you so much for the chat
