Excerpt from the podcast:

Can you tell me more about what the writing process was like for the EP?

Totally. All of the music came from very personal experiences. Over the past, like a little bit over a year, I’ve gone through a lot of things, a lot of different emotions. You can probably tell. I’m grateful for it. It hurt at the time, but you know, here we are.

The first one I wrote off the EP was “$hiny Things,” which has also the track title, which is kinda cool. Writing that song, I hate the way this is going to sound, but it was just… I was in LA, I was on a rooftop, I had my guitar out and I was like, wait, this is kind of dope. I wrote it in like an hour, then I showed a producer I worked with, Diego and he’s like, ‘Oh, that’s sick.’ The demo was done in a few hours.

The next one was “Better Than She Did.” I came into a session with the verse, melody, and lyric, and I was just so pissed off at this guy. Oh my God, you have no idea. I was just like amped up and this guy’s like, ‘let’s write this song.’ I was like, ‘I’m so mad.’ He’s like, ‘let’s write this song!’ All the songs kind of happen like that.

“21st Birthday,” I wrote it a few weeks before my birthday, but the whole thing was a projection of like how scared I was that this guy wasn’t gonna text me on my birthday.

“None of My Business” is about like getting cheated on and you know, all this stuff. It’s all real. I like it because I’ve gotten a lot of good feedback from fans that are saying that they relate to it.
