EXCLUSIVE: Asher Angel Talks New Song “All Day,” Andi Mack 3rd Anniversary and More

If you were an avid Disney Channel watcher you probably know Asher Angel. Getting his start on one of the more recent popular Disney shows, Andi Mack, Angel has grown into a young accomplished actor having already starred in a big blockbuster superhero movie, Shazam!. Angel also has a respectable catalog of music as well for being only 18, Angel has song with Wiz Khalifa called “One Thought Away,” and he just released his brand new song “All Day.” ECHO had the chance to chat with Angel about his new single and more!

How are you doing?

All things considered I’m doing ok.  Thanks for asking.

Let’s talk your new song “All Day,” what was the creative process behind this song?

Most of the music I have released to date has been collaborative efforts.  All Day is no exception.  Written by Arizona Zervas, everything about the record felt right.  I wanted the record to have a feel good vibe, a summer/spring break, car top down cruising the coast with your friends jam.  Something to make you smile.

You’ve been posting a lot of fan videos and Tik toks of people dancing to “All Day” what is it that you look for people when they’re dancing that will encourage you to repost their video?

I try and support my fans the same way they support me.  So there is no formula.  Things that make me smile or laugh or otherwise just resonate with me.  I love my fans – they support and inspire me every day with their love and words of encouragement.

You’ve been releasing a lot of stand alone singles, can we expect an album in the near future?

Interesting observation.  I don’t really think of them as stand alone singles.  For me, I am trying to have a conversation with my fans.  I am trying to create and record records that matter to me and I hope resonate with them.  Of course I will release an EP or album in the near future.  But I quite enjoy the ability to release music and continue that dialogue.

You’re also an actor, do you find acting and music compliment each other or is one kind of an escape from the other?

They are both extensions of me.  With music though, I get to share a lot more of my feelings at a given moment in my life.  Acting allows me to play other characters and deep dive into psychologies and behaviors that I may not ever personally experience.  I do love that about acting.

What was your first love acting or music?

Too close to call.  Growing up in musical theatre I always did both.  I get asked all the time which I prefer more – music or acting- and the truth is that the answer changes depending on what I am currently working on and when I am asked.  I love them both and the best part about it is that I don’t have to choose.

We’re about a month or so into being quarantined, what have you been doing to keep busy and stay creative?

I am home with my family.  I play a lot of guitar and piano and have been doing a lot of writing lately.  We also have been watching movies, binging watching some TV shows and playing in the backyard.

What’s the first thing you’re going to do once quarantine is over?

Go to some of my favorite restaurants.  I am so excited to eat out!

You posted a few days ago that Andi Mack premiered 3 years ago on Disney channel, what’s one memory you still remember from those days?

Hard to pick just one.  I remember the very first table read.  All of us gathered to start this amazing adventure together.  It was so new, fresh and exciting.  What a great feeling – one that I will never forget.

If you could set up a fan in a setting for them to listen to your music what setting would that be?

I would love to go to their house and perform live.  How cool would that be?  I like the idea of a more intimate setting where I get close and personal – they get to know me and I get to know more about them.

What’s one quote you’ve heard in life that you want to ECHO out to fans?

Be Kind.  Be Courageous.  Be You.
