From Pitch Perfect to Dear Evan Hansen, Ben Platt is one of those insanely talented people out there that we all love to fan girl over because of their talents. Platt is an extremely talented singer and writer and performer. Just releasing is debut album Sing to Me Instead, which is a great album to introduce himself to the music world. He co-wrote all 12 tracks and all of them feel like intense personal insights into his former relationships.
Platt opened with his song “Bad Habit” where he sings in a clear, powerful baritone, resorting to falsetto in the final choruses. Going onto sing songs such as “Temporary Love” and “Honest Man,” a song that will for sure become popular in the LGTBQ community. Platt’s stage set felt like a living room, where everyone was in a circular space singing to the audience, making them feel like they were up there with Platt. He also covered songs such as “The Joke” by Brandi Carlile, “Overjoyed” by Stevie Wonder and “Take Me to The Pilot” by Elton John. Towards the end, Platt hit us hard emotionally singing songs such as “Grow as We Go,” “In Case You Don’t Live Forever” and “Older.”
Overall the show was so therapeutical, making everyone tear up and laugh, it was a much needed show if you’re feeling anxious or stressed at all. Platt is not too far away from being an EGOT winner and this album will for sure get him some Grammy nominations. Make sure to check Platt out on tour in a city near you by purchasing tickets here.
