Aly & AJ Kept Their ‘Promise’ and are back with The Sanctuary Tour

After their 10 year music hiatus, Aly & AJ made a triumphant return last summer with their Promises Tour. They assured fans that they would be back soon and they kept that ‘promise.’ Now, with even more music, Aly & AJ are back on their Sanctuary Tour and it’s even more than anyone could have imagined.

Aly & AJ are childhood icons for most of us listeners but they also have a lot of new fans, with the crowd being full of 30+ year olds and college students and some High School. Their songs such as “Potential Breakup Song” and “Like Whoa” are staples in the early 2000’s music scene and they bring even more maturity and bops with them in their new era of music.

On May 18th, ECHO attended the Boston stop at Paradise Rock Club which consisted of Pride flags, a meet and greet contest during the show and some awesome music.

The concert was “like a rollercoaster ride” of emotions making everyone feel nostalgic, ecstatic and happy with their return to the music industry… they’re sort of the first to start the whole revival scene as well. Seeing the childhood icons and sisters on such an intimate stage for the second summer in a row was a dream. The whole crowd felt the duo’s LGTBQ support with songs such as “Good Love” and their choice to partner with The Trevor Project, which is the leading national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to LGTBQ young people. They had donation bins and awareness booths at the show and will for every show.

Their music itself was awakening and was a mix of new and old, with old being pop-infused and their new being a bit more mature sounding such as “Star Maps” and “Take Me.” Their outfits, like last year, were amazing as well, representing how women deserve equal rights wearing suits and pants that made them look sleek and clean and professional while also having a laid back feel.

Overall, the tour gives us more than anyone who missed their tour last summer and has a chance to see them this summer could have asked for: a concert full of nostalgia and fun. Their tour goes all the way through June so make sure you catch them live by getting your tickets here.
