Vanessa Hudgens is soaring, flying and breaking free in the new music video for the song “Lay With Me.” The video is a recreation of the famous last scene of High School Musical and the only thing missing is Zac Efron.
In the video for Phantoms’ new song, “Lay With Me,” Hudgens goes back to her roots as Gabriella. You see her old self, the shy scientist and math wiz with a secret love and passion for theater. The video opens with Hudgens wearing a lab coat, standing in the middle of the stage and her hair is Gabriella inspired with a little red bow.
Just like the famous audition scene in the movie, the stage is decked out with spotlights, a paper moon and the piano with the piano player wearing a top hot, inspired by Kelsi. At first, you see her shy Gabriella self, being nervous, but then halfway through the song Phantoms comes onto the stage, as if he was Zac Efron. She is all of the sudden confident and sheds her lab coat… like a boss. Honestly, at first watching the video we thought it was just a clip from the movie and Hudgens lip syncing to the song “Lay With Me.”
“When we sat down with Vanessa to brainstorm ideas for the video, we knew that this idea was something both our fans and Disney fans alike would be excited to see,” Phantoms told Just Jared about the video. “It represents us all growing up and moving on, but still remembering where we came from. Directed by The Das, they did an amazing job of bringing our vision to life and making it really funny as well. We are super proud of how it turned out.”
