SIX60’s “Never Enough” Is Incredible, But The Music Video Fails To Impress

New Zealand based genre-crossing band, SIX60 just released their music video for “Never Enough.”

“Never Enough” is the first song off of the five-piece group’s third album, SIX60, which was released in November 2019 and has climbed New Zealand charts.

Lead singer, Matiu Walter’s falsetto, along with the heavy bass influence, use of horns, and steady beat are reminiscent of the sound of American band, Portugal. The Man, without being too similar.

According to the New Zealand online news magazine, Stuff, SIX60 are the country’s top native musicians, with multiple showings on 2019 single and album charts. In February 2019, the band became the first New Zealand band to play a sold-out show at the Western Springs Stadium in Auckland.

“Never Enough” is catchy, complex, and fun – a song that is made to be danced to, and if not that, at least get the listener tapping their foot. For a song that is capable of having a music video with a creative edge, such as Jungle’s “Happy Man,” or Portugal. The Man’s “Feel It Still,” it falls short of its potential.

The video, released January 9, is a combination of shots from their concerts and close-up square-cropped shots of the band playing their instruments. Some of the cuts are poorly lined up to the music, and happen so frequently that they become distracting.

Despite falling short with the video, SIX60 makes up for it with their album, success on New Zealand charts, and their upcoming tour with multiple locations sold out.
