EXCLUSIVE: Interview with VÉRITÉ

In 2017, VÉRITÉ emerged with her first album, “Somewhere In Between.” Since then her music has been streamed more than 250 million times, including 50 million album streams. This year she released “New Skin;”  which serves as both a second album title and metaphor for a new era in her career.

We caught up with VÉRITÉ  on tour with X Ambassadors. Check out what she had to say about her name, fans and new music.

You recently released your new single, “Good For It.” Where did the inspiration for that track come from?

“Good For It” is about being unsure what you want or where you’re going. It’s about wanting to live up to your word, and see something through, despite whatever uncertainty you feel. It has a really strange and unstable feeling to it. To me, it feels like pleading to myself to commit.

How did you come up with the name VÉRITÉ?

Google. I gave myself a deadline and forced myself to choose a name. I feel like I embodied the name and the name wound up fitting me very well.

You’ve started a new text community for your fans. Can you tell us more about that and what fans can expect from it?

I love talking to fans one on one. Social media isn’t always my forte, it’s just a mindf*ck. I do really love my fans and this community I’ve built around the project so I want to use this as a way to give back to people who have literally built my career with me.

Your new album New Skin comes out on October 25. Why did you choose that title for the album?

As we live and go through life, we’re always growing and changing. We’re shedding old ideas and habits to grow new skin. New skin means new feelings, new perceptions and living in a new world. There are limitless ways I can find that the name is the perfect moniker for this era.

This is your second album. How have you grown as an artist since your first?

I’ve lightened up, I’ve gotten more comfortable. I was more involved in the production of the record, more confident in giving the songs space to breathe. I am a completely different person making a completely different record.

What would the perfect listening environment for your album look like?

In headphones, alone, walking at night in 60 degree weather with a jacket on.

What can audiences expect on tour?

Audiences can expect me getting a little too emotional, yelling the songs with them.

What is your favorite song to perform live?

Right now, any song from New Skin. I think the title track is a special moment.

What is one piece of advice that you’ve received that your would like to ECHO out to the World and your fans?

Being in the middle of a journey is hard as f*ck. Success is relative and you’re beyond capable of continuing to move forward, even when the end isn’t fully in focus.
